John Nichols (1790-1831) was a paper maker in Newton Lower Falls, Mass. According to an obituary in the Columbian Centinel for January 19, 1831, he was a native of Scotland. However, this appears to be an error, because his grave record printed in Vital Records of Cambridge, Mass. states that he was born in Durham, Maine.
